Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Samii and I’m a COTA from North GA. Occupational Therapy is particularly important to me because it involves understanding the individual person as a whole on so many levels in order to provide the best treatment. Since I’ve turned from my clinical role as a therapist now to a recruiter, I do miss working with patients. However, my job now is just as fulfilling to know I’m helping other therapists out there find their niche and provide quality treatment while traveling the US! A fun fact about me is that I also coach and play Volleyball. Favorite sport, by far.
What did you go to school for?
Occupational Therapy
What is your current job title and how has that changed since you first started working?
COTA/Recruiter. Since being in the OT field, I’ve learned so many new treatment methods and ways to work with a diversity of patients & personalities. I knew I wanted to continue to help people and feel as if I’m making a difference. Now working as a recruiter, it still allows me to do that and create meaningful relationships with therapists around the country.
What are some different roles you’ve held since becoming a therapist?
Coaching kids Volleyball, Volunteer work, Marketing & Recruiter work
What would you share with someone who wanted to find a position like yours or build a company/brand such as yours?
Find a travel agency that is open to working with you, even if you have limited experience as a recruiter. My company welcomed me with open arms partially because of my therapy background, and it’s been a blessing to be able to learn and grow alongside them.
What would you share with someone who is starting their journey to be a therapist?
Understand that the job is not always rainbows and butterflies. You will have moments that you question everything you’re doing and whether you’re doing things right.. but you will also have moments that truly make a difference in someone’s life and you can feel it.
What are you most passionate about with your role as a therapist?
Giving my full attention and time with my patient when I’m with them. Not making them feel rushed, giving a listening ear, and always providing meaningful activities are all on the top of my list.
