Requirements
Applicants must meet the following local and state requirements:
- Education: Doctoral or Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program
- Licensure: Valid Physical Therapist licensure in the state of Virginia
- Experience: Previous experience working as a Physical Therapist, preferably in a school-based setting
- Clearances: Successful completion of all required background checks and fingerprinting
Key Responsibilities
As a Physical Therapist in a school setting, your role will include:
- Assessing and evaluating students' physical therapy needs and developing individualized treatment plans
- Providing physical therapy services to students with disabilities, promoting mobility, strength, and functional independence
- Collaborating with teachers, special education staff, and parents to support students' participation in school activities
- Developing and implementing goals and objectives for each students Individualized Education Program (IEP)
- Providing direct therapy services and assisting students with exercises, adaptive techniques, and assistive devices
- Monitoring and documenting student progress, adjusting interventions as needed
- Educating and training school staff and parents on physical therapy techniques and how to support students physical needs
- Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings to contribute to students overall development and success
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of therapy services provided
