Position Requirements:
- Certification: Must be a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) licensed in the state of New Mexico.
- Education: Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Experience: Prior experience working with school-aged children in an educational setting is preferred.
- Additional Requirements: Applicants must meet all local and state certification requirements. Ongoing continuing education for certification renewal is required.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA), you will:
- Assist with Therapy Services: Implement therapeutic interventions and activities designed by the Occupational Therapist to help students improve their fine motor skills, sensory processing, and overall functional abilities.
- Support Student Independence: Work with students on daily tasks, such as handwriting, self-care, and organizational skills, to promote greater independence.
- Collaborate with School Staff: Work closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other therapists to provide integrated support to students with disabilities.
- Monitor Progress: Assist in tracking students' progress towards their goals, adjusting interventions as needed, and documenting outcomes.
- Create a Positive Environment: Foster an inclusive and encouraging environment to help students build confidence in their skills.
- Provide Parent and Teacher Support: Share insights and strategies with parents and teachers to ensure consistent support for the students needs both inside and outside the classroom.
