Job Description: As a Physical Therapist (PT) in this school-based role, you will assess, treat, and provide therapeutic interventions to students with a wide range of physical needs, including motor skills, coordination, strength, and mobility. You will develop and implement individualized treatment plans for students, collaborating with teachers, parents, and special education teams to help students achieve their physical therapy goals and access their educational programs more effectively. Experience with special education students is highly preferred, as you will be working closely with students who may have physical, developmental, or learning disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students' physical needs by evaluating motor skills, coordination, balance, strength, and mobility.
- Develop individualized therapy plans based on assessments and in alignment with each students IEP (Individualized Education Plan).
- Provide direct physical therapy services to students, focusing on improving motor function, strength, mobility, and overall physical abilities.
- Collaborate with school staff, including teachers, special education teams, and other therapists, to ensure physical therapy goals are integrated into students' classroom activities and routines.
- Monitor and document progress of therapy sessions, adjusting treatment plans as needed to meet students evolving needs.
- Participate in IEP meetings to discuss student progress and provide input on physical therapy goals and services.
- Provide education and training for teachers and parents on how to support students' physical development, including exercises and accommodations to use in the classroom or home environment.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for each student, ensuring compliance with state and district regulations.
- Advocate for students physical needs and ensure necessary accommodations are in place for students to succeed in the school setting.
Qualifications:
- Active Physical Therapist (PT) license in the state of Washington.
- Experience working with children, particularly students with special education needs, is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of school-based therapy practices, IEP development, and how to incorporate physical therapy into students academic and functional goals.
- Ability to develop and implement individualized therapy programs based on each students unique needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, families, and school staff.
- Must meet all local and state requirements for providing physical therapy services in a school setting.
