Position Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following local and state requirements to apply:
- Education: Associate's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field.
- Certification: Must hold a valid Illinois Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) License.
- Experience: Prior experience working as an SLPA in a school setting or similar environment is preferred.
- Skills: Knowledge of speech and language disorders, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and speech-language pathologists.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Supporting Speech Therapies: Assisting in the delivery of speech and language therapy under the supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist.
- Implementing Treatment Plans: Following treatment plans and strategies designed by the Speech Language Pathologist to address students' speech and language needs.
- Providing Direct Therapy: Conducting one-on-one and group therapy sessions, focusing on articulation, language development, and communication skills.
- Monitoring Progress: Observing and documenting student progress, noting changes in behavior, performance, and skill development.
- Collaborating with Educators: Working alongside teachers and other school professionals to ensure speech therapy goals are being met in the classroom.
- Preparing Materials: Assisting in preparing educational materials and resources to support therapy sessions.
- Parent and Teacher Communication: Reporting student progress to parents and teachers as needed, ensuring all parties are aligned with the students therapy goals.
